Recess

Last week, we began experiencing "recess" as part of the cruiser lifestyle.  The kids have found that concerted effort allows them to complete school work in about 2-4 hours - leaving the rest of the day for recess/play (okay - not really.  They are doing the dishes a lot more than they did at home and will soon help with sailing and laundry).  On the 29th, when school work was done and Dave and I were still working on the solar panels, the kids rowed the tender to shore so our daughter could complete her art history project: building a ziggurat.   We anchored in Aquatic Park for much of the week.  The rest of the week, we visited:
     * Maritime Museum
     * Chinatown & St. Mary's
     * Cheesecake Factory (for a mid-afternoon dessert) & Union Square
     * Grace Cathedral to walk the labyrinth and admire the stained glass designs and paintings
     * Pier 39 - including a magic show in which our son participated
     * Boudin bread factory "tour and museum" - complete with samples
     * Musee' Mechanique' (a collection of arcade-style games from the last 100 years)
     * deYoung art museum in Golden Gate Park
     * San Francisco Cable Car museum

   Playing one of the old-timey games at Musee' Mechanique'

     The kids watched their dad beat mom in a racing game.  No surprise to anyone!  Elsewhere in the "museum", our son did give me good competition for air hockey, but I still beat him at that.

     From the observation deck (9th floor) of the deYoung museum.  Our son used his iPad to take a panorama of pictures since the observation deck has 360 degree viewing.
