After a frustrating day of homeschooling yesterday, this mother did what any self-preserving mother would do and jumped off the boat.
Okay, okay. It wasn't quite so dramatic, but after a day of helping young people prepare for tests, I needed some down time. So I changed into my swimsuit and slipped into the water from the bottom step of our transom. It was just the right temperature for swimming - mid 70's. The distance was 200-300 yards. Once on shore, I jogged a bit towards the resort at the eastern end of the beach. By then, the sun had slipped behind the low hills to the west of the anchorage and I figured I needed to get back to the boat. Swimming back was a bit more challenging as the waves were now against me. All in all, it was only 26 minutes, but a good workout nonetheless. I even thought that I should try a "tri" (triathlon) when back in the States. Seriously, with running a couple days a week and riding my bike one or two days to work, as I used to before we left, I need only find a pool.
Oh - and check out what we saw just a little while ago while motoring to our current anchorage (Bahia de Chamela):
Two days ago, we motored the dinghy about 2 nm (that's nuatical miles - not nanometers) to a beach near "The Aquarium": a snorkeling paradise in Bahia Tenacatita. The going was a bit rough and we were soaked before we reached our destination. While the water was murky due to wind and waves, the variety of fish was far more than we'd seen in any other locale. We snapped pictures constantly - hoping that a couple would be worth sharing.
Dave giving the snorkeling thumbs up.
Non sequitor: Our son helping me show off the valentine's day decorations our daughter put up (she also made everyone cards out of the florescent colored paper we have on board). The French baker gave all his female clients a rose on Saint Valentine's day. It still looks nice...
And about his hair: he's letting it grow long while on this trip. Though if I tease him enough about looking like Shaun Cassidy, he just might ask to have it cut.....
Why yes, the computer in the background is a Mac that doubles as our DVD viewer. Dave and our daughter especially like to make movies. To see a preview for the movie he's going to make about our trip, see:

At risk of becoming unpopular, I vote for the very salty-looking long hair. As Captain Jack would attest, add a few beads and a capped tooth or two, and the look is verrry manly.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots of the rays!
