We've been at Marina Cortez in La Paz for a week now. The photo below is how we've kept track of all the things that needed to be done to prepare the boat for the trip north. The window on the right includes the "done" items and the one on the left the "to do". We plan to leave La Paz April 6th.
Sticky Notes - the new to-do list....
David did most of these tasks since I was on antibiotics and sleeping much
of last week. Some of the items were "nice to have" - like
replacing the galley light so that we don't need to use tape to hold it in
place anymore. Others included fuel filter replacement and a debate over
whether to clean the fuel tank. We decided to hold off on that because it
requires cutting an access plate into the tank - something we're not prepared
to do right now. We instead bought many
more filters. However, being an 18 year old boat, we calculate a good 4
gallons of crud and unusable fuel trapped in the lines which effectively makes
the tank only 36 instead of 40 gallons. This matters to us because we
don’t have the luxury of waiting for perfect conditions to sail north along the
Baja coast. There’s 800 miles to cover
and (hopefully not) the possibility of motoring for most of it.
Sunrise near Mazatlan - before we crossed the sea. Just ran across this photo and had to include it.
Do you guys run a dual fuel filter so you can take one off-line to change elements while the engine's running? Having an access port into your tank is pretty useful, to be able to visually check fuel level if nothing else.
