Surprise (22° 53.273'N, 109° 54.135'W)

We left beautiful Bahia Ballandra Tuesday, April 8th for Ensenada de Los Muertos.  It has been re-named Ensenada de Los Suenos since someone apparently thought Bay of the Dead didn't quite attract the tourists like "Bay of Dreams" does.  Well, we like the original name.

Anyway, we were only about 1/2 mile from land as we approached our destination when we were startled to see whales between us and the land.  We slowed to impulse speed (really slow) to see where the whales would go: we were not at all interested in cutting them off by turning in front of them to reach our destination.  They eventually headed in the direction opposite us, but not before we caught a couple pictures to show how close to land they were.

Ensenada de Los Muertos offered two snorkeling options: rocks and coral quite close to the sandy beach in shallow water and a rock and coral fish haven at the northeastern corner of the bay.  Those pictures will have to come later.  I tried two things I hadn't before: diving with snorkel and mask and then swimming with eyes open and no mask.  Not surprisingly, the latter is like swimming in a pool without goggles - everything is blurry.  There was a quiet nagging concern that one of the small jellies would touch my eye: I've been stung on the face where the mask doesn't cover.  But no issues this time. I should explain that being stung by one of these tiny jellies is more of an annoyance than anything.  Only a few were large enough such that I felt the sting hours after getting out of the water.

Yet again, our boat found itself amongst dolphins like this one:

We are now anchored in the clear water of Cabo San Lucas Bay.  As we prepped for a little clean up work under the boat, David spotted a sea horse clinging to the strap holding our tender to the boat.  It's the only one we've seen.  Alas, our waterproof cameras were either out of memory or out of charge so the only picture we have is from the Nikon.  I'll try to add that with the snorkeling photos in the next entry.
